Reuters Andy Home: U.S. mineral import dependence is high or unable to rebuild the domestic supply chain] Reuters metals column senior editor Andy Home: The United States is 100% dependent on imports of minerals including arsenic, fluorite, gallium, indium, manganese, niobium and tantalum, which are used in a variety of applications such as alloys and semiconductors, as well as in the manufacture of electronic components such as LCD screens and capacitors. China is a major supplier of 7 of the 13 largest dependencies. The United States is more than 50 per cent dependent on imports of 31 other key minerals, indicating what proportion of the United States' demand for each mineral is met through imports.
