The striking update to this year's iPhone 15 Pro series is none other than the introduction of a new titanium bezel, which according to Apple's official description is lighter, stronger and more scratch-resistant than stainless steel. Thanks to the titanium, the iPhone 15 Pro series is also much lighter than its predecessor~
So how much titanium does an iPhone 15 Pro Max contain? I believe many of you are also more curious... In order to confirm how much titanium is contained in the body of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the tube blogger JerryRigEverything disassembled it and threw the middle frame into the furnace to melt.
It's important to note that the titanium centre frame of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is not pure titanium, but a combination of both titanium and aluminium.
JerryRigEverything explains that aluminium melts at 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit (about 815 degrees Celsius), while titanium melts at 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit (about 1,649 degrees Celsius). Therefore, if you heat the iPhone 15 Pro Max's middle frame to around 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, you can separate out the aluminium and leave the titanium behind.
After some manipulation, JerryRigEverything managed to extract some titanium chunks from the iPhone 15 Pro Max's centre frame. He claims that the titanium metal weighs about 18 grams, and according to the current market price, each gram of titanium metal is worth about $0.5 to $2, so the piece of titanium metal is worth between $9-$40 (roughly Rs. 66-Rs. 292).
JerryRigEverything also scanned the piece of titanium with an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and confirmed that it is Grade 5 Titanium, one of the most commonly used titanium alloys.
According to Apple's website, the titanium bezel of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is welded to the new aluminium inner frame using solid-state diffusion technology. This industry-innovative technology utilises a thermo-mechanical process to achieve a high-strength bond between the two metals.
He also said that although the body of the iPhone 15 Pro Max isn't made of pure titanium, that doesn't take away from its excellent performance. He believes that Apple made the right choice in designing the iPhone 15 Pro Max and praised Apple as a "very smart" company.
