Uses:
With its small neutron capture cross-section, high thermal conductivity, and strength, Nb is used in atomic energy reactors as a nuclear fuel cladding material, as an additive to nuclear fuel alloys, and as a structural material in heat exchangers. Metallurgical grade niobium powder is mainly used as an additive in alloys and for the production of welding rods, refractory materials, etc. Niobium bars are mainly used in the steel industry for special steels and high-temperature alloys, magnetic materials, and in the production of other niobium alloys.
