Polished Tantalum Plate

Generally, starting from a tantalum ingot of 15-30cm, it is cold forged into a slab of about 8~10m thick, and then cold rolled from such a slab, and the compression rate can reach more than 95%. In commercial production, a two-roll mill or a four-roll mill is usually used to roll the slab into a plate with a thickness of 0.63 to 1.2cm and a width of 51 to 102cm.

Representative rolling is carried out at or near room temperature to prevent the formation of oxides on the surface. When hot rolling is required, the temperature rises to 1000°C due to recrystallization and strong oxidation reactions.

Almost all thick plates are heat treated and annealed in a vacuum. Since there is no phase change, the rate of heating and cooling is not important. When a four-roll multi-roll mill is usually used, further rolling is carried out with an ordinary rolling mill. Since tantalum is very soft, care should be taken to prevent scratches during processing and transportation.
