Tantalum is not a precious metal, but its chemical resistance is comparable to that of precious metals. In addition, tantalum, although having a body-centered cubic crystal structure, is easy to process at temperatures well below room temperature. This makes it a valuable material for many chemical applications. We use this“Rugged” material to produce heat exchangers for equipment manufacturing, rivets for furnace structures, implants for medical technology, and capacitor components for the electronics industry.

The most common form of tantalum in nature is tantalite, with the molecular formula (Fe, MN)[(NB, Ta) O 3]2. When tantalum content is dominant, the ore is called tantalite. When the niobium content is higher than the tantalum content, it is called niobite. The world's largest tantalum deposits are in Australia, Brazil, and some African countries.

The concentrate of about 70% (TA, NB)2O5 can be obtained by various methods. The concentrate is then dissolved in a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid. Then the obtained fluoride complex (TAF7) was transformed into an organic phase by a liquid extraction process. Tantalum was then separated from the organic phase using potassium hydrogen fluoride. The process produces potassium (K2TAF7). The tantalum compound prepared in this manner is then reduced by sodium to produce pure tantalum metal.
