Tantalum Balls

In the periodic table, some adjacent elements of tantalum can be a completely solid solution in tantalum, and some have high solubility. Rhenium, tungsten, zirconium, and hafnium are the most effective replacement solid solution elements. The low-temperature plasticity of tantalum will be damaged if the amount of added elements exceeds a certain range. It is generally considered that the Atomic ratio should be less than 12-14%. Interstitial elements such as nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen have little effect on the strength of tantalum, but obviously, damage its low-temperature plasticity and processing plasticity. Only when these interstitial elements form a dispersed precipitation phase with the active elements zirconium or hafnium, can the enhancement effect be obvious. The Ta-10W-2.5hf-0.01C alloy developed from Ta-10W is a typical alloy combining solid solution and precipitation strengthening.
