Objectives for Molybdenum Sputtering Targets
Silvery-grey metal molybdenum has a Mohs hardness of 5.5. It has a melting point of 4,753 °F/2,623 °C. Of the naturally occurring elements, only tantalum, osmium, rhenium, tungsten, and carbon have higher melting points. Molybdenum begins to oxidize weakly about 300 °C (572 °F). Among commonly used metals, it has one of the lowest thermal expansion coefficients. When the diameter of molybdenum wires is reduced from 50-100 nm to 10 nm, their tensile strength increases by nearly three times, from around 10 to 30 GPa.
