II .Product Feature

Niobium is classified as a paramagnetic, ductile, and lustrous metal in the periodic table.

When the metal is left in the air at room temperature for a long time, it develops a bluish tint. Even though it has a high elemental melting point (2,468 °C), it is less dense than other refractory metals. It also produces dielectric oxide layers, exhibits superconductivity, and is corrosion-resistant. How pure the niobium metal is affects these properties, especially the superconductivity. When extremely pure, it is rather ductile and soft, but impurities make it harder.

Niobium atoms are somewhat less electropositive and smaller than those of zirconium, the element that comes before it in the periodic table, but otherwise almost identical in size to the heavier tantalum atoms due to the lanthanide contraction. Tantalum's chemical properties are very similar to those of niobium because they are found next to each other in the periodic table, right below it. Despite lacking tantalum's superior corrosion resistance, niobium is appealing for less precise applications like chemical plant linings due to its lower cost and greater availability.
