Medical Titanium Wire

Medical titanium wire are used for medical devices, prostheses, or adjunctive therapeutic devices and are characterized by a modulus of elasticity close to that of natural bone. Medical titanium has excellent corrosion resistance, modulus of elasticity close to natural bone, and excellent biocompatibility. Pure titanium for medical use is a single-phase tissue that cannot be strengthened by heat treatment.

Applications

Used as dental implants, internal bone plates, and bone screws. Titanium mesh or titanium plates are also used to make artificial skulls, artificial heart valves, pacemakers, and radiation therapy with titanium alloys.

Medical titanium wires have the advantages of good biocompatibility, low modulus of elasticity, low density, non-toxic, high yield strength, long fatigue life, greater plasticity at room temperature, easy to shape, easy to cast, etc.   

Grade

According to the number of impurity elements carbon, iron, oxygen, and other content are divided into 1, 2, 3, and 4 grades.

Production Standards

Standard for Executives: ASTM F67, and ASTM F136

1. Ingots used for the production of processed materials should be melted in a vacuum self-consuming electric arc furnace or EB furnace melting plus vacuum self-consuming electric arc furnace melting, the number of melting should not be less than twice.

2. Self-consuming electrodes shall not be welded by tungsten argon arc welding.

External dimensions and permissible deviations　

the outline dimensions and permissible deviation of medical titanium plate shall conform to the provisions of ASTM B265. 　

Performance　

After heat treatment, the specimen billet should have its mechanical qualities examined. The recommended heat treatment regime for the specimen is: 550℃~750℃ for pure titanium, 700℃~850℃ for TC4, TC4ELI and TC20 alloy, holding 0.5h~3h, air cooling, and vacuum annealing for coiled wire.
