Polished tantalum round rod refers to a product obtained by processing tantalum metal into a round column through a specific process and polishing its surface.
The chemical composition of tantalum rods includes elements such as iron, silicon, nickel, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, niobium, oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. Specifically, in the chemical composition of Ta1, the content of these elements is no more than 0.005%, while in the chemical composition of Ta2, the content of iron, silicon, nickel, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium and niobium is no more than 0.005%, and the content of oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen is also limited.

Production process
Smelting: Put high-purity tantalum raw materials into a vacuum furnace for smelting to remove impurities and obtain pure tantalum ingots, which provide a basis for subsequent processing.
Forging: Heat the smelted tantalum ingot to a suitable temperature and densify it through a forging process. The tantalum billet is plastically deformed by external force and initially formed into a bar prototype.
Rolling: After the forged tantalum rod is surface treated (such as removing the oxide scale), it enters the rolling process. Through multiple rolling passes, the diameter is gradually reduced, the dimensional accuracy and surface finish are improved.
Cutting and forming: According to the required size and specifications, the tantalum rod is cut into a round column using cutting equipment to obtain a tantalum round bar billet.
Surface polishing: The tantalum round cake billet is surface treated by grinding, polishing and other processes to remove surface defects such as burrs and scratches, improve the surface finish, and achieve the required surface quality standards.
Cleaning and testing: The polished tantalum round bar is cleaned to remove the residual abrasives and impurities on the surface, and then a comprehensive quality test is carried out, including dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, chemical composition, density, hardness and other aspects of the test to ensure that the product meets the relevant standards and customer requirements.
Application areas
Capacitor electrodes:
Small tantalum round rods can be processed into electrode cores for tantalum electrolytic capacitors, especially in miniaturized, high-capacity precision electronic components (such as smartphones and laptop motherboards), where the high dielectric constant of tantalum enables efficient energy storage.
Semiconductor packaging and leads
In semiconductor chip manufacturing, tantalum rods can be made into high-temperature resistant, low-impurity lead frames or connecting terminals, which can withstand the high temperature environment when the chip is working and do not interfere with circuit signals.
Vacuum electronic devices
Electrodes or support structures used for vacuum devices such as microwave tubes and X-ray tubes, using their high melting point and low vapor pressure characteristics to ensure that the devices work stably under high vacuum and high temperature.
Scientific research and precision instruments
Core components of experimental devices: In laboratories such as materials science and high-energy physics, they are used as support rods for heating elements of high-temperature furnaces, sealing connectors for vacuum cavities, or crucible support structures for preparing high-purity materials.
Aerospace and nuclear energy fields
Precision components for rockets and missiles: In small propulsion systems, they are used as valve cores and nozzle liners of fuel valves, etc., to withstand the low and high temperature combustion environments of propellants (such as liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen) while maintaining structural strength.
