With the development of nanotechnology, nano-related tumor targeting therapy has also received attention.


In chemotherapy, researchers have designed various types of nano-drug carriers (e.g. me soporous silica nanoparticles) to deliver drugs to the tumor lesion to improve the therapeutic effect and reduce the side effects of chemotherapy. In radiotherapy, many nanomaterials containing high-Z (atomic number) elements (e.g. Au, Bi, W, Ta, Hf, etc.) are also used for radiotherapy sensitization. Nanosystems of me soporous tantalum oxide can efficiently load adriamycin, prolong the half-life of the drug in vivo, and achieve pH-responsive drug release at the tumor site, which facilitates tumor-targeted chemotherapy. On the other hand, tantalum itself has a better radio sensitizing effect, resulting in a significant improvement in the final radiotherapy treatment effect. In addition, the toxic side effects produced by this system is greatly reduced compared to the death of experimental rats caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy using free adriamycin. The me soporous tantalum oxide nanoparticles designed and prepared by Zhuang Liu's group of Soochow University, as a new type of nano carrier, possess good drug carrier properties and also produce a radiotherapy sensitizing effect, which can effectively to combine radiotherapy and chemotherapy with reduced toxicity to mice and further improve the therapeutic effect. Its me soporous tantalum oxide nanoparticles were prepared for one step by the soft template method, and then a layer-by-layer modification method was used to finally modify biopolymers such as polyethylene glycol on the surface of the material, making the nanoparticles have good biocompatibility and low toxicity.
