Nitinol Foil

The thermo-mechanical characteristics of super elasticity and shape memory effect of nitinol are well known. When Nitinol deforms at one temperature and then recovers its original, underformed shape when heated above its transformation temperature, this is referred to as having "shape memory." A small temperature range just above its transition point is where super elasticity occurs. In this instance, the underformed shape can recover without the need for heating, and the material has extremely high elasticity—about 10–30 times greater than that of common metal.

As per ASTM F2063, we provide Nitinol foil (a titanium nickel alloy foil) at the smallest thickness of 0.002".
Our continuous length nitinol foil is offered in fully annealed or superelastic states, both of which are suitable for secondary operations like as stamping and shaping. Our foil is produced to exacting mechanical, dimensional, and alloy composition standards. Nitinol foil that is 0.08 mm thick or more requires special processing.

Applications

- Due to its extreme flexibility and mechanical memory properties, it is used in cell phone technology as a retractable antenna or a microphone boom.

-Used in some novelty products, such as self-bending spoons that, when used to stir tea, coffee, or any other warm liquid, can bend themselves. These spoons can be used by amateur and stage magicians to demonstrate "psychic" powers or as a practical joke.

-Nitinol Foil possesses qualities that make it acceptable for use in orthopedic implants and is extremely biocompatible. There is a high need for nitinol foil in less intrusive medical equipment.
